Dear new members of SPGG pool team,
Thank you for taking time off to come for the short trials at SPGG. I suppose that you got here through the SMS that was sent to you. Recieving that SMS means you have passed the trials and the personality test. Was the trials too easy?
However it is at this point where you have to make your decision if you want to join this pool team or not. I know there is alot to read, so please read carefully and dont miss out the important information.
For those who are interested to join, you have to go through a MINIMUM OF 2 MONTHS compulsary training. During these 2 months, you will learn the basics of pool like learning how to do draw shot aka screw tarek ur cue ball, learn how to break the balls hard, how to get out of a situation when your frend sabo you by not letting u see the ball u supposed to hit. These are the kind of things guys need to impress girls =). AND THERES MORE TO LEARN!!!
You still get to play at SPGG Monday-Friday 10am-11pm. Thats 13 Hours of pool daily if you are that crazy to play pool.
However with all the good stuff you get to enjoy. shit has to happen so please read on.....
Firstly trainings will not be held at SPGG Pool hall but instead at Games Fusion Billards (GF Billiards) At Depot Road to cater to a big group of you.
It will be on Tuesday / Friday 7pm-10pm. During both training sessions you would learn the same thing. So you only need to come for one. DO NOT COME FOR BOTH as its a public place and there are 4 tables for us during training. So if I have 40 people. It would be a maximum of 20 people/day and 5 person/table.
How to get there? Take cab!! Serious!! Share with 4 people. Each person fork out $1.50-$2 which is only a 10 minute drive there. You pay the same on ur ez-link card and it would take you about 30min?? Its worth it if you really wish to excel far in this game.
Going off track awhile. Some of you may ask why should you join the coaching session and pay when moberly has a coach and its actually free over there. Simply put, our coach has produced many top players in the national team, National intermediate and national youth squad. So if you want good quality coaching that is worth the money, here is the best chance. If you really dont believe it, then if you have to play with those in the team and you will find out yourself =)
Moberly coaching is free HOWEVER they only cater up to 20 students on that 1 saturday. And those 20 people actually have skills before they enter the team. So MOST of you don't possess those good skills from what I saw in the trial. If you are not happy with what I said here then maybe should you should try ur luck over at Moberly and leave this team.
If you still are not convinced to join and rather go to moberly here is more info about moberly team, they have 3 training days, Thursday, Friday & Saturday, they are not actually training as in teach you how to play but rather go there and enjoy "free pool". (Sorry to all moberly players who read this blog. No offence. But I help you advertise your pool club below also =X)
Like I said, SPGG Pool team is a very competitive club. You want to make it far in this game or learn a whole lot of things about this game. Here is the place. Our standard is not on a tertiary level but rather on a university level. If there was IVP for pool. SP would 100% be in the Top 3. =)
There is NO CCA POINTS GIVEN HERE. We are not recognized by SP. Only SP pool & Foosball club @Moberly will offer CCA points. So if you want to get the most benefit, please go and find a way into SP Pool & Foosball club. Learn and practice here. Go there and represent your school & make new friends.
So now is the most important part of this topic. $_$
Basically you have to pay $80 for the 1st 2 months. ($40/Month). $40 would include your coaching fee & table cost at GF Billards. This means that when you go to the pool hall for training, there will not be a need to pay for the tables there. Also, there is no such thing as only want to pay to play at SPGG. You must go for all.
If your thinking $40 is too expensive let me just say that Republic Polytechnic (RP) is also training under the same coach, they instead have to pay $50/month and they can only use the tables there twice a week for training, any other time they have to pay to play. So $40 is much lesser and yet you get a chance to play every single day. Is that really too much to ask for?
Look at it from another point of perspective, how long would u take to burn up $40 on pool? If ur table time at spgg is $6/hr. $40 would be about 7-8hrs of table time? If I ask you to come down once every week maybe for 3hrs? You would have cleared those 7-8hrs of table time already. That is if you only play once everyweek. =)
After 2 Months, you are free to choose the path of being a competitive player and a social player. When the time comes, we will talk about it. But those being a competitive player, you will really be on a level much higher than your friends and you can easily impress girls with your skills =). If at any point there is doubt about the training methods or uncertainty about the science of pool, please feel free to ask the coach or your captain & vice captain. DO NOT ASK ANYONE ELSE.
During these 2 months you do not need to buy your own cue. There will also be a lesson on how to choose the proper cue so that you wont have to end up buying a $100 piece of shit. There are also some seniors like me who are selling off our beginner cues so you will get the best bargains here as well.
So now after reading what i wrote. You have to reply the SMS that was sent to you with the following details.
Name: XXXXXX
Intrested or Not.
Tue/Friday that you will attend the training session Choose 1 day only!!.
If you do not reply the SMS, it would be considered that you do not wish to join this team.
There will be a briefing on 6th May, THURSDAY. At 6PM
You have to come down to SPGG to make payment for your 1st 2 months DURING THE BREIFING ON 6th May Thursday. Training will begin on the 11th of May / 14th of May. Depends on which day you picked.
New year 1s are NOT ALLOWED to play at spgg until the 10th of May when we will have a final briefing for you guys.

NEXT UP IS FOR THOSE CURRENTLY IN SPGG POOL TEAM.
